Introduction
At Crua Outdoors®, customer safety is at the core of everything we do. Whether you're adventuring solo or with loved ones, we believe it’s our duty to provide not just comfort, but peace of mind. As “The Tent Expert,” we continually evolve our product development approach to ensure it reflects both innovation and responsibility.
Part of that responsibility includes how we approach fire-retardant (FR) materials and chemical safety. While certain markets require compliance with standards like CPAI-84, we’re also aware of growing health concerns surrounding long-lasting chemicals such as PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances). No tent is truly fireproof, and we do not misrepresent them as such.
Starting in 2025, all newly developed Crua products will be PFAS-free, including waterproof coatings and any other component where PFAS may traditionally be used. This is part of our commitment to protecting both our customers and the environment.
Our Approach
- Natural Flame Resistance: We use natural flame-resistant materials wherever feasible.
- Chemical Treatments: Only applied to Outer Tents, Fly Sheets, and Tarps when required for CPAI-84 compliance.
- Standard Compliance: We meet or exceed international standards relevant to our industry.
- PFAS-Free Commitment: As of 2025, all newly developed products will be 100% PFAS-free, covering not only waterproofing but also any coatings or treatments across all materials.

Monitoring & Supplier Compliance
All suppliers within our supply chain must comply with the standards outlined above and provide supporting documentation. As part of our PFAS-free transition, we also request full chemical transparency from vendors for all coatings, treatments, and textiles.
