Pack your tent and your surfboard! With spring almost over, now seems like a good time to start looking at surf camping trip ideas that you’ve been longing to do in the colder months. What could be more ideal than heading out, finding a new surfing spot, and camping for the weekend? The options are endless in the USA, but with our carefully crafted recommendations, your dream can become a reality even quicker! We’ve already looked at beach camping in Texas, but this time we thought we’d switch it up a bit and look at the best East Coast spots for camping and surfing.
At Crua we are always thinking of how we can make our designs better for you, meaning that we have worked hard to make it possible for you to camp where you want and in total comfort. Camping is not just for the hardcore or nostalgic. We want to share the joy of the outdoors with everyone and make it easier for anyone to experience camping, anywhere. We are always learning and sharing our best knowledge and prepared for the odd curveball that likes to rear its head every now and then, but then isn’t that what friends do.
Anastasia State Park, Florida: With more than 1,600 acres of beaches, tidal marshes, maritime hammocks and ancient sand dunes, Anastasia State Park is open year-round and offers 139 camping sites. This State Park is a haven for visitors and wildlife alike. There is an abundance of birds including Osprey and Eagles to look out for! And surfing is listed on the park’s website as one of the main experiences to be involved in whilst you enjoy your stay. This Park has some of the better surfing on the East Coast of Florida, with four miles of beach break. Surfers wear trunks or bathing suits in the summer months, but wetsuits are recommended when the water and air temperatures are colder. The Island Beach Shop and Grill provides ocean and beach equipment and there are also local surf shops located throughout the park if you are missing any equipment. Entering the water is of course at your own risk, but always make sure to check warnings posted in the area.
Our Mór tents are the perfect option for larger groups and longer stays. These tents are ideal for a good night's sleep as you are cut off from nature’s elements. They are also secure, breathable, and noise dampening. What more could you want? The polycotton used in the tent’s inner lining and flysheet is fully breathable, and the waterproof TPU laminate on the flysheet’s underside stops condensation. How good does this sound?
Freeman Park, North Carolina: Freeman Park is a stretch of shoreline that is well known for its adventurous 4x4 truck owners. Unlike many other beach stretches, this park is unique because it allows beach driving and off-roaders. This Park has picturesque sunsets and is a great spot for surfing as well. Camping on the beach comes with a lot of rules, so make sure to check these out before you head on out.
Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland: Want to live life on the edge? Assateague Island is home to sandy beaches, salt marshes, maritime forests and coastal bays. You can relax and enjoy some time at the very edge of the continent. With 37 miles of beaches, the Assateague Island National Seashore has two camping areas in the open inner-dunes. Assateague is a raw surfing experience, but be careful of the strong currents, as these may exist! If you are looking for other activities to do whilst you are in this area, then fear not, there are plenty! You could take a hike, bike, go horseback riding, crabbing, fishing or even go for a swim. First-time visitors should stop at the visitors center to explore their options on this seashore to make sure they aren’t missing out on any seasonally planned guided programs.
Our Crua AER tents would be the perfect fit for both these locations. The Crua AER is a rooftop tent like no other. It connects to other Crua tents, can be used as a ground tent and has an anti-wind noise feature. Not only that but add the Crua Culla Haul and you have a thermally insulated interior. The Crua Culla Haul is a tailor made inner tent for the Crua AER. It is made from premium grade insulation and offers supreme temperature regulation. While keeping you at the perfect temperature, it also blocks out light and dampens sound.
Find any camping surfing spots you like the sound of? We think that these East Coast spots are the ideal weekend break or even perfect for a longer stay with family and friends.
