Day 1: Kick off your adventure with a 5.4-mile round-trip hike up Ampersand Mountain (3,352 feet), one of Saranac Lake’s beloved 6er’s. Summit the rocky peak after gaining 1800 feet of elevation and soak up the views as you enjoy a long lunch break. Head back to Base Camp for a hearty backcountry feast and stay toasty as you master your s’mores technique by the campfire.
Day 2: Start your day with a gourmet backcountry breakfast and coffee, then enjoy a day paddling the diverse lakes and chains of the St. Regis Canoe Area. Make your way from Hoel Pond to Turtle Pond then over to Long Pond in just under 3 miles of paddling, then head ashore to hike a short 1.5 miles to the grassy summit of Long Pond Mountain (2,530 feet), where you’ll find stunning views of the surrounding lakes with the High Peaks in the distance. Return to Base Camp after the day’s paddle and hike for a delicious meal and restful night’s sleep in the spacious Crua Loj (up to 4 people) or the cozy Crua Tri (up to 2 people).
Day 3: Gear up for a day spent hiking in one of the most popular regions of the Adirondack State Park—the High Peaks. Begin or continue your quest to become a 46’er with a 6.2-mile round trip hike to the summit of Cascade Mountain (4,098 feet) and the nearby Porter Mountain (4,059 feet). Make your final ascent with a gradual scramble up the exposed rocky summit of Cascade, and celebrate your achievement surrounded by 360-degree views of the High Peaks. Fuel up with a lunch break on the summit of Porter, then descend and return to Crua Headquarters in the late afternoon.
