Crua Tents Are Different. Here's Why

The Crua Technology is the first of its kind, we designed, developed and tested our insulation technology for one thing in particular – tents. The design is simple but incredibly effective. Sandwiched between two layers of polycotton is our 400g/m^2 hollow fiber breathable insulation. This is protected by our TPU laminated dura-breathe polycotton. We spent months designing and testing various insulation techniques, we wanted the best of the best, we wanted to stand up tall and say ‘We’ve done it’. 480 cups of coffee later we were proud to launch the world’s first insulated tent – The Crua Loj (All weather 6-person insulated tent). HOW OUR TECHNOLOGY WORKS

INSULATED

Our quilted inner lining ensures you stay warm during cold weather and cool during periods of very hot weather.

The insulation layer is fused to the DuraBreath TM  fabric and incorporated into the tent floor – ensuring no heat is lost.

  • This very thin layer of insulation - with an R-value of 5, does an amazing job of keeping heat in your tent when cold outside, and heat out when very hot.
  • This extra layer of insulation adds little additional weight to the overall tent.
  • Our insulation technology really is the best of both worlds! It’s 13 times better than a conventional tent.
  • Noise insulation is another big advantage of our tents - where any disturbing sounds will be muffled and reduced so you can enjoy your rest.
  • Light insulation also ensures you will get a good nights' sleep. Activity that tends to wake you when you are sleeping out can be light, either light from other campers if you happen to be in a campground or daylight.

          STRONG

The application of strong materials, ensures our tents are tough and can withstand the harshest of weather conditions.

          • Our DuraBreath TM fabric is extremely strong, puncture and tear resistant.
          • Our fabric is also mildew and UV resistant.
          • Our PVC windows can withstand the harshest of winter and summer conditions - with no cracking.
          • Our insulating wall is durable but light - adding little extra weight to the overall tent.
          • We also designed a very tough PE (Polyethylene) floor - which adds an extra layer of protection between you and the ground and hence protects the floor of your tent against punctures and tears.
          • Additionally, our PE floor reduces heat loss. When the ground is cold a full 20% of heat loss occurs through the tent floor. That’s why we use a custom, insulation-backed carpet in the tent living area. Ultimately, this also adds a nice level of comfort.

          FLAME RETARDANT

Our tents are flame resistant certified, under the CPAI-84 and ISO 5912:2011 testing.

Our Crua tent fabric is also treated with a premium fire retardant.

          • Our tents are tested under the CPAI-84 testing standards. This standard provides test methods for evaluating flame resistance of fabric and other pliable materials in camping tentage.
          • Crua Tents also surpass standards under the ISO 5912:2011 specifies requirements for safety, performance and fitness for use of camping tents.

            WATERPROOF

The exterior of our tents is made with a highly hydrophobic exterior lining.

The Hydrostatic Head (HH) of the fabric used in our tents is 6,000 mm, this rating proves our fabric is:

            • Of course our Crua Tents are remarkably waterproof - this stops the penetration of water, sleet or snow completely.
            • Hence while you may want to be out in the elements during the day, you don’t want the rain, sleet or snow to come inside with you. This is why our waterproof technology combined with our ventilation system, ensures a dramatic reduction of condensation in your Crua tent.
            • Our waterproof technology combined with our ventilation system ensures we make tents that are both breathable and waterproof.
            • Additionally, this ensures that there is natural ventilation in your Crua tent at all times.
            • We understand how important ventilation is, in order to minimize in-tent condensation, and hence protect you from the elements.

              BREATHABLE

Our tents are also made with porous fabrics, which allow the direct passage of air through the tent.

              • This ensures that there is natural ventilation in your Crua tent at all times.
              • We understand how important ventilation is in order to combat in-tent condensation, and hence protect you from the elements - this is why we have designed our tents with built-in vents on both sides.
              • Remarkably waterproof - this stops the penetration of water, sleet or snow completely.
              • This waterproof technology combined with our ventilation system, ensures a reduction of condensation in your tent.
              • Our waterproof technology combined with our ventilation system ensures we make tents that are both breathable and waterproof.

                MILDEW RESISTANT

As a result of our superior set of designs and technologies – we have made sure that:

                • Your tent has ventilation/insulation systems that ensure breathable fabrics.
                • Moisture has the capability to exit the tent.
                • To ensure further mildew resistance, we use TPU laminate (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) on the inside of the fabric to waterproof it. TPU is a great alternative as it ensures we don't use any harsh chemicals on our fabrics.
                • This is why our fabrics are waterproof, breathable and free from harsh chemicals.
                • Overall this also ensures that there is natural ventilation in your Crua tent at all times.

“We were able to set up the tent successfully. It’s everything they said it would be, and we were very warm and toasty on the inside” Lynn Schatteles

“Never before in our 11 years of elk camp did we enjoy such dry, waterproof and windproof comfort during our two week stay. It easily accommodates cots, bunks, a stove and gear-laden hunters” Pat Durkin

                QUALITY OVER COMPROMISE

                MILITARY GRADE STEEL POLES

We refuse to settle for poor quality tent poles. We were determined to make a difference and after six suppliers and different designs we finally nailed it! One-inch diameter, military grade, reinforced steel poles – so you can be confident that your tent will take anything Mother Nature might throw at it.

                OVER-SIZED ZIPPERS

There is no better way to ruin a good product than with a lousy zipper. It’s one of the few actual interfaces between user and tent. We use premium zippers and over-sized ones at that. All to make sure that zipper failure is not something that you will ever have to deal with

                ILLUMINOUS GUY LINES

We’ve all done it. Walk around the tent in the dark and forget about the guy lines, the result being a nasty fall. The guy lines on a Crua tent are visible at night so you will see them instead of tripping over them.

                CRUA ESSENTIALS

                THE CRUA STORM STAKE

The Crua tent stake is made of high quality aluminium alloy. Their angled design ensures they won’t pull out like conventional tent stakes. We supply angled and grooved tent stakes that offer far more surface area, which means your Crua tent will stay up even in strong winds. We’ve even developed optional storm stakes for heavy-duty, long-term applications.
