Take a Hike: The Crua Community’s Seven Favourite Hiking Boots

As far as we are concerned, there are a few things that are absolutely musts in every camping trip. There has to be a nice warm cuppa in the morning. This is best enjoyed while sitting in your tent looking out at the nature around you, that’s a given. In the evening time, another must-have is chats about nothing around the campfire or barbecue. Wedged somewhere in the day, you’ve got to take a hike. It’s what gives your trip the added bit of adventure that we all need.

We have been slowly going through our camping checklist. Our community has helped us compile our top camping stoves and our top camping lights. Another camping essential is a good pair of hiking boots. We recently filled you on in the important things to consider when buying a pair of hiking boots. Now it’s time to give a list of our favourites.

Compiling a list of best hiking boots is a tricky proposition. There is such a vast selection to choose from and everyone has their own tastes. Even when we reached out to our community the diversity was incredible. Our list is not definitive. If your favourite hiking boots didn’t make the list then please comment below. We’d love to hear your experiences.

In the meantime, check out our list below of the Crua Community’s Seven Best Hiking Boots.

Salomon Quest 4D 2 GTX

The Soloman Quest 4D 2 GTX is a highcut backpacking boot that is a lot more lightweight than it looks. Not the most durable boot on the market by any stretch of the imagination. However, what this hiking boot lacks in durability it makes up for in comfort.

A flexible boot that provides great ankle stability under heavy loads. Excellent traction which gives a lot of certainty and reliability underfoot.

Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Boot

Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Boot is another mid to lightweight hiking boot. A lot of very positive features. Very comfortable, waterproof, strong ankle support and great flexibility.

An excellent boot year-round. Has a lot of the qualities of a traditional hiking boot but with a lightweight design. It is hard to fault this pair of hiking boots. However if we were to pick a fault it would be that in offering a lightframe, Lowa sacrifices up some of the durability. A small price to pay for what is, nonetheless, a superb option.

Keen Targhee 2 Mid Waterproof

Keen have built a reputation for producing high quality, affordable hiking boots that are built to last. The Keen Targhee 2 Mid Waterproof are no exception. As the name suggests, these are waterproof so will keep your feet warm and dry.

Added to that they are also extremely breathable so keep your feet from getting too hot and sweaty. They also have very good arch support which is another key detail.

The boots are made with a high quality leather material, they’re durable and very comfortable. A highly recommended pair of hiking boots.

Merrell Moab 2 Vent Low Hiking Shoes

There were a number of hiking boots and hiking shoes from the Merrell Moab range that we could have added to this list. A few different designs came recommended including the Women’s Moab Ventilator Mid Hiking Boot. The Merrell Moab 2 Vent Low Hiking Shoe was included as a representation of the entire collection.

The Merrell Moab 2 has a lot of great running-shoe characteristics which includes being lightweight, freeing, flexible, breathable. On top of that they have the support underfoot and around the ankle that comes with a durable hiking boot.

Vasque Breeze 2.0 Mid GTX Hiking Boots

Once again, this choice represents a brand more than anything. We could have also gone with the the Vasque St. Elias or the Vasque Breeze 3.0.  However, down to overall popularity we went with the Vasque Breeze 2.0 Mid GTX Hiking Boots.

When deciding on a best pair of hiking boots for you, it is good to draw up the pros and cons. If you were to do that for the Vasque Breeze 2.0 there is a huge list of pros and very few cons. That speaks volumes.

A start is the mid-cut which we like a lot. Also, for a mid-cut, they are extremely lightweight. This combination makes them a good boot to have for a weathers. They are also incredibly well ventilated and with a Gore-Tex lining they waterproof. Pros far outweigh a scarcity of cons.

La Sportiva Nucleo High GTX Hiking Boots

Crua Blog - Top Hiking Boots

The award winning design of the La Sportiva Nucleo High GTX Hiking Boots make it one of the best hiking boots on the market. A modern, highly technological boot. It comes with built in Nano-Cell Technology and built in Gore-Tex Surround Lining.

This all sounds really fancy and impressive and to be honest, it is. What it means is that this hiking boot has excellent waterproof technology and top of class breathability. The Nano-Cell Technology means that it is not just breathabile through the top of the boot but also underneath. This basically means there is a full interior ventilation system!

For a lightweight boot well ventilated boot, it is also pretty tough and durable. A firm favourite amongst many members of the Crua Community.

Danner Explorer 650

Crua Blog - Top Hiking Boots

Danner Explorer 650 was essentially designed to be the ultimate hiking boot. There is inspiration taken from all angles. A very stylish boot that has a lot of the comfort values of a low-cut, lightweight design. However, this boot was created for serious hiking. Tough leather material make them very durable and waterproof.

The Danner Explorer 650 is designed to take a beating. Sure to give comfort and support for miles and miles.

Thanks to everyone who helped us in compiling this list. Hiking boots are something where personal experience holds a lot of currency in our opinion. If you have a pair of hiking boots that you love and wasn’t in our list, drop a comment and let us know about them.
